Dr. Tommaso Hinna Danesi holds the distinguished position of Section Chief of Valve Surgery in the division of Cardiac Surgery at Brigham and Women's Hospital. Concurrently, he serves as the Director of Endoscopic Valvular Program, a testament to his extensive expertise and leadership in the field of cardiac surgery.
A native of Rome, Italy, Dr. Danesi embarked on his illustrious medical career by completing his Medical Degree and Cardiac Surgery residency at the University of Rome "La Sapienza." His unwavering commitment to advancing the field led him to Vicenza, where he embarked on fellowships in Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MICS) and Endoscopic Cardiac Surgery (ECS) under the mentorship of Dr. Loris Salvador. In 2014, Dr. Danesi attained the status of Attending, and in 2020, he ascended to the position of Director of the Minimally Invasive and Endoscopic Cardiac Surgery Program in Vicenza.
Along with the ECS program, Dr. Danesi established a comprehensive transcatheter and hybrid valvular program. His visionary approach also resulted in the inception of the Thoracoscopic Cardiac Surgery Program (TCS), which aimed to redefine the scope of endoscopic procedures, offering innovative solutions for complex cases such as left atrial appendage exclusion (LAA), epicardial pacing wires, and pericardial effusion drainage.
In a remarkable career move in February 2021, Dr. Danesi accepted the role of Associate Professor of Surgery and Director of the Endoscopic Cardiac Surgery Program at the University of Cincinnati Cardiac Surgery Division. During his tenure in Ohio, he achieved several remarkable milestones, one of which was the first-ever endoscopic triple valve surgery and the pioneering North American endoscopic aortic valve replacement.
Returning to his home country of Italy in February 2023, Dr. Danesi was appointed as Vice-Chief of the Cardiac Surgery Unit and assumed the role of Director for the Minimally Invasive and Endoscopic Cardiac Surgery Program, further cementing his position as a distinguished leader in the field.
Recognized as one of the foremost experts in valvular and endoscopic surgery, Dr. Danesi has been actively engaged with prestigious scientific communities such as the Endoscopic Cardiac Surgeons Club, EACTS, STS, and ISMICS. His dedication to enhancing the quality of life for patients with cardiovascular disease is underpinned by an evidence-based patient care philosophy. Dr. Danesi's approach to minimally invasive surgery extends beyond the operating room, encompassing a patient-centric approach that ensures a minimally invasive experience from admission through the operating room to discharge.
Dr. Hinna Danesi's clinical, research, and teaching interests revolve around heart valve surgery, with a particular focus on mitral, tricuspid, and aortic valve repair. His entire practice in valve surgery is characterized by a commitment to minimally invasive or endoscopic techniques, demonstrating his dedication to cutting-edge, patient-centered care.
Beyond his illustrious career, Dr. Danesi is a person of diverse interests, which include a passion for dogs, cats, motorbikes, and the culinary arts.
